Personal Year calculator — where you are in the nine-year cycle
One date of birth in, your current 1–9 year number out — plus this month's texture within it. Computed, not guessed.
↑ this birthday sits in a 5 year for 2026 — movement and loosened ground — with July running as an expressive 3 month inside it.
- Years 1–3 — planting: a beginning (1), the patience for it to take (2), the first expressive growth (3).
- Years 4–6 — building: structure (4), the mid-cycle shake-up (5), and the tending that follows (6).
- Years 7–9 — ripening: the inward year (7), the harvest (8), and the clearing that makes room for the next cycle (9).
- Then 1 again — the cycle restarts — which is why a 9-year retrospective is often the most convincing way to meet this system.
- The Personal Year is one digit of arithmetic — the same for everyone who shares your birth month and day.
- The Annual Forecast is computed from your full chart: the year's pillar against your BaZi, month by month, favorable and demanding periods marked — specific to you.
- Both are timing lenses, not predictions: they suggest when to push and when to consolidate, never what will happen.

How is the Personal Year calculated?
Your birth month and birth day are each reduced to a digit, added to the reduced digits of the current calendar year, and the total is reduced again to 1–9. This calculator uses today's date for the current year, so what you see is the cycle you're in right now — deterministic, same date, same answer.
When does my Personal Year change?
This calculator follows the calendar-year convention: the number turns over on January 1st. Some schools count from birthday to birthday instead — both are internally consistent, they just disagree about the weeks between New Year and your birthday. We state our convention so you always know what you're reading.
What do the nine years mean?
The cycle runs like a season arc: 1 plants, 2 waits, 3 expresses, 4 builds, 5 shakes loose, 6 tends, 7 goes inward, 8 harvests, 9 releases — then a new 1 begins. None of it is a forecast of events; it's a rhythm to reflect against, and years rarely feel like their number until you look back.
What is the Personal Month?
The same arithmetic one level down: your Personal Year number plus the current month, reduced to 1–9. It's the texture inside the year — a 3 month inside a 7 year reads very differently from a 3 month inside a 1 year. The calculator returns both.
How is this different from the Annual Forecast?
The Personal Year is one number from simple arithmetic — useful, but coarse. The Annual Forecast is a computed report: the year's pillar set against your actual BaZi chart, each of the twelve months plotted as favorable or demanding for you specifically, cross-read with this numerological cycle. One is a compass heading; the other is the map.
